Lunch with a Side of Music

If you work in Downtown and want to mix it up for lunch, you are in luck! The Downtown Seattle Association is hosting it’s 39th annual Out to Lunch concert series. Throughout the week, the DSA books various bands local to the area to play for free at parks within Downtown Seattle.

Every concert starts at 12pm and ends around 1:30pm with seating provided but not always in the shade. The first concert I went to was at Seattle City Hall (the same day I went to SAM for the Kusama art show) and most seating was exposed to the sun so make sure to bring a side of sunscreen or a hat with your lunch.

The first concert I got to see was Pearl Django (shown below) that was booked for Thursday, July 6th and despite the heat, they played beautifully. They primarily focused on classic jazz but with a couple of Cole Porter songs sprinkled throughout. They can be booked for private events so if you want to learn more about them or want to see them play live, you can visit their calendar and contact info on their website here.

The best venue (in my opinion) is any performance at Harbor Steps. The steps provide natural seating and sound travels smoothly even to those sitting further away. The first concert I saw there was performed by The Chancellors (shown above) where they mostly did covers of 80s classics and some modern pop songs with a jazz band melody. They do private events too like weddings or parties so to learn more and possible book them yourself, click here
