The Friday Harbor Watering Hole

Our cake baker is not even 50ft away from the San Juan Brewing Company so it only made sense that after our second cake tasting we go there for lunch.

The San Juan Brewing Company is located about a 15 minute walk away from the Friday Harbor ferry terminal and housed in a large two story tall building. The first thing you see when you walk in is the tall ceiling height that has an almost warehouse feel to it. Our group at the time was only 7 people (two friends were arriving later in the afternoon) and we were seated next to a large projection screen displaying the Beaver vs Husky game.

As we ordered our drinks I was surprised on their wide selection of beer choices and decided to do a flight of 5 beers instead. My 5 beer flight consisted of their porter, stout, scottish ale, brown ale and a their seasonal bock. I love how the flight was presented (on a wood block tray in the shape of San Juan Island) and my favorite beer was the nitro porter.

Their food menu features pub classics like burgers, sandwiches and pizzas - most of our friends ordered one of their signature pizzas like the “Pig War” but I went a faux healthy route and ordered fried brussell sprouts glazed with a balsamic vinegar. The portion was larger than their pizzas and I barely got through ¾ of it. Looking back, I’ll probably order their corn dogs or something because for $12, you get a lot of brussell sprouts and only brussell sprouts.

I was able to take bites out of everyone else’s lunch and my favorite was the “Pig War” with every pork product possible on that pie. I was also a fan of their french fries that was perfectly crisp and none were floppy or soggy from the grease. I didn’t get to try any of the burgers but aesthetically they look fantastic and from watching my friends faces, I take it tasted fantastic too.

Overall the San Juan Brewing Company is a great place to stop by for lunch and enjoy a beer or two. This review is short because I couldn’t really find a flaw or negative when eating there. Maybe the only flaw was our table was located directly in front of the door so anytime someone left or entered, we would feel the draft but most likely everyone reading this will go to the San Juans during the summer.

Yeah it was pretty good and Mr. Mustang and I will absolutely be back again.
